Real-time scheduling and online resource allocation on scalable streaming media server

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a layer-based integrated real-time scheduling algorithm in a single scalable stream and an online dynamic resource allocation algorithm among multiple concurrent users for scalable streaming media server over a network with packet loss and variable delay. The layer-based real-time scheduling algorithm efficiently schedules the packets in the buffer of the scalable streaming media server for transmission. The on-line resource allocation algorithm can allocate the server’s resource among all the concurrent streams fairly and improve the playback quality in client. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithms outperform the frame-based scheduling algorithm and the off-line resource allocation algorithm in various situations with different round-trip times, channel errors, etc. The low complexity of the proposed algorithms also enables them to be applied in real-time applications.

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...
متن کاملReal-time scheduling based on imprecise computation for scalable streaming media system over the Internet
This paper proposes a performance metrics and a real-time scheduling algorithm based on imprecise computation workload model for delivery of scalable streaming media, which can be adapted to network status and QoS requirement over the best-effort Internet. The scheduling task of a scalable streaming media is partitioned into two subtasks: the mandatory subtask for the base layer and the optiona...
متن کاملAdaptive Media Scaling and Streaming of LayeredMultimedia in Heterogeneous
The fast increasing network connectivities to a wider range of end-users and cheaper and diverse end-user devices further exacerbate the need for adaptive and scalable streaming solutions. Motivated by these streaming requirements, we introduce the notion of a layered multimedia presentation and outline a framework for the media scaling and streaming of such presentations across heterogeneous n...
متن کاملRate Control for Non-Real-Time Video Encoding
In streaming video applications, video sequences are encoded off-line and stored in a server. Users may access the server over a constant bit-rate channel such as Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN). Examples of the streaming video are video on demand, archived video news, and non-interactive distance learning. Before the playback, part of the v...

The obvious recent advances in areas such as video compression and network architectures allow for the deployment of novel video distribution applications. These have the potential to provide ubiquitous media access to end users. In recent years, applications based on audio and video streaming have turned out to be immensely popular and the Internet has become the most widely used vector for me...
